Pollution prevention and resource circulation

Policy and commitment

The Yaskawa Group is committed to realizing a circular economy by reducing waste and promoting resource circulation. Throughout the entire lifecycle of our products and services, we work to minimize environmental impact and advance the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle) for waste materials, including plastics.
We also manage chemical substances contained in our products appropriately and comply with all relevant laws and regulations both in Japan and overseas. From manufacturing to disposal, we strive to minimize environmental impacts and prevent pollution caused by chemical substance leaks or improper waste handling.

Initiatives

Recycling activities

As a result of China’s plastic waste import restrictions, waste plastics, which were conventionally sold as valuable materials, are now classified as waste.
However, by selecting a recyclable waste disposal operator, we were able to maintain zero waste emissions.

Packing materials information

The Yaskawa Group provides packing material information for their products.

The information is provided in accordance with EU Commission Decision: 97/129/EC.
Since fiscal 2022, we have started displaying a URL on the exterior of some products using a QR code for information reference.

Initiatives of 3R(Reduce・Reuse・Recycle)

・Reuse of isopropyl alcohol (IPA)

High-purity IPA had been discarded from the Bestact Solutions’ Bestact manufacturing line in the Yukuhashi plant.
As a result of a review conducted by the group companies within Yukuhashi Plant, mainly centering on Yaskawa Electric, reuse of IPA was started because the quality of IPA used in Yaskawa Controls’s repair process could be ensured.
Consequently, the activities resulted in significant improvement in the amount of IPA discarded from 3,500 liters per year to 500 liters per year.

Proper management of chemical substances

Seminar Room (Nikkei Conference Hall)

In FY2017, we introduced the chemical substances information communication scheme “chemSHERPA” in accordance with the International Electrotechnical Commission IEC62474, which is used for management of chemical substances contained in products.
In March 2019, we participated in “Yokuwakaru chemSHERPA Donyu Kigyo Jirei Seminar (Seminar for easily understanding company case studies of chemSHERPA installation)” hosted by Nikkei ESG, and introduced some examples from our company, such as devising chemSHERPA management.

In FY2024, one product model was found to be non-compliant with the RoHS directive.
We promptly reported the issue to customers and regulatory authorities, took legally appropriate action, and completed corrective measures.
