Biodiversity

Policy

To realize a sustainable society, the Yaskawa Group recognizes that our business activities are founded on various services provided by biodiversity and shall promote the conservation of biodiversity through business activities and social contribution activities based on our Basic Philosophy of Environmental Protection and our Basic Action Guidelines under the concept that the protection of the global environment is one of the most important themes in common to all human beings.

Action guidelines

  1. We shall strive to prevent global warming, recycle and save resources, and perform appropriate management of chemical substances in our business activities.
  2. We shall promote our environment/energy business domain to reduce environmental loads from both energy saving and energy creating aspects.
  3. We shall deepen our employees’ knowledge on biodiversity and collaborate with the local community, administration, NPOs, and NGOs to carry out activities both internally and externally.

Initiatives

Provision of sustainable food

At Yaskawa, we support wildlife control efforts and contribute to local environmental conservation by making effective use of wild game such as deer and boar, which damage agricultural crops, as ingredients for gibier cuisine.
By serving gibier dishes in company cafeterias, we create opportunities for employees to effortlessly participate in environmental activities, which also helps raise environmental awareness.
Currently, sustainable food is being served at two sites: the Yahata-nishi Plant, Yukuhashi Plant, and the Nakama Plant. We aim to expand the number of locations offering these meals in the future.

Special Award at the SDGs Idea Contest

In September 2024, Doei, a Yaskawa Group company, participated in the Iwata Group’s SDGs Idea Contest themed around food.
In the contest, Doei presented current cafeteria initiatives aligned with the SDGs, including “provision of sustainable food” and “switching to film-type food containers to reduce resource use.” Additionally, new ideas were proposed to help achieve a sustainable society, such as “dry processing of food waste” and “reducing food loss through automated vegetable production systems.”
These efforts were recognized with the Special Award.

Activities to exterminate invasive alien species

Since FY2017, the Yahata-higashi Plant has been engaged in annual efforts to eradicate “Coreopsis Lanceolata,” an invasive alien species. Thanks to continuous and appropriate removal activities, complete eradication was achieved in FY2024.

Establishment of paper purchasing guidelines

Yaskawa has established paper purchasing guidelines, and we purchase paper in accordance with these guidelines.

Greenbelt

At the new head office (commonly known as “Robot Village”), which opened in June 2015, we created the “Greenbelt” where we planted approximately 100 species of trees, mainly consisting of locally indigenous species, to help conserve biodiversity and contribute to the local environment. By nurturing a diverse range of trees and flowering plants, we aim to create a rich natural environment that attracts a variety of wildlife, including birds and insects.
The Greenbelt is open to the public on weekdays and serves as a place where local residents can connect with nature, enjoy moments of relaxation, and experience the changing seasons. It also provides employees and their families with opportunities to experience nature close at hand and take a moment to think about the environment.
In the future, we plan to organize events such as wildlife observation activities and tree-planting experiences, with the goal of developing the Greenbelt into a “Forest of Learning” where children can learn about the importance of nature and biodiversity.
